Immigration and Refugee Law Matters such as entry and exit of foreigners (i.e. individuals entering into Canada with a domicile of another country) into Canada, their rights and obligations upon their entry and exit and if they violate any established rules and principles during their stay in Canada leading to penalization (including deportation or forced exit from Canada) are all dealt with by the Canadian immigration and refugee law as enshrined in the comprehensive piece of legislation know as the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act as enacted in the year 2002 which effectively substituted the Immigration Act 1976.

Amongst the primary changes this new legislation brought was the wider spectrum of discretion and power granted to immigration officers during the process of reviewing and deciding upon an application by a foreigner to enter Canada for various purposes. This Act is supplemented well by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations which aim to further elaborate or expand the area of matters and jurisdiction covered by the Act.

In addition to the mentioned laws, other statutes on this subject include the Citizenship Act and various other relevant provisions f the Criminal Code of Canada which have application in respect of immigration and refugee concerns.
